Repórter: Parabéns pelo ótimo show, como se sente ao tocar no 100 Club?
Paul: Parecia fantástico, você sabe, porque estamos voltando às raízes, me lembrou do Cavern e além, e foi muito bom. É um ótimo pequeno palco e você sabe ficamos tão felizes em ser parte da campanha para salvá-lo porque ele é bom demais para perder, é um ótimo ponto de encontro pequeno e central em Londres. Nós tivemos um grande momento. É ótimo tocar em pequenos clubes e o público estar tão perto eu até esqueço isso, é como se você estivesse jantando com eles. Mas foi ótimo, foi muito legal e nós nos divertimos, sentimos que tocamos bem e sentimos que o público respondeu bem, fora o fato de que fazia uma hora que eu saía da cama, foi ótimo, nos divertimos.
Se você pode lotar qualquer estádio, qualquer arena que quiser, então por que um clube?
Você sabe é legal em grandes estádios porque qualquer pessoa que queira ver consegue e é bom fazer grandes shows épicos, mas voltar a um pequeno clube como esse é emocionante e eu realmente acho que após tocar em grandes estádios este ano nós quisemos levar essa coisa toda de volta à nossa casa na Grã Bretanha. Então voltamos ao 100 Club e que é tão pequeno quanto você pode conseguir, e é muito íntimo, muito divertido e nós tivemos uma rajada de vento. Quer dizer, eu não havia tocado na hora do almoço desde os tempos do Cavern, e toda essa coisa de sair da cama e se preparar para um show onde você vai ter que cantar algumas notas muito altas é interessante e nos divertimos muito.
E foi aparentemente o menor show solo que você já fez?
Eu acharia que é bem provável, acho que no Cavern cabia mais gente do que no 100 Club, mas é ótimo, esses pequenos lugares são excelentes e todos nós da banda nos divertimos
Então você acha que podemos ter uma turnê de clubes no próximo ano?
Não, em uma palavra, não.
Ok, está bem. Tem sido um ano incrível de shows para você e é claro que você tem alguns concertos a fazer e termina com Liverpool, foi uma escolha intencional? Você está ansioso em voltar lá?
É, você sabe, é interessante porque 100 Club e no Academy O2 em Liverpool são locaisonde meu filho James fez shows este ano, então ele fez um reconhecimento e então estamos o seguindo nessas pequenas apresentações, mas é ótimo, quero dizer, eu amo voltar a Liverpool lógico porque é minha cidade natal e tenho vários parentes lá e depois de termos ido ao Brasil e Argentina e América é ótimo estar volta em casa e estar de volta a Liverpool é uma sensação boa no fim do ano para trazer aquela sensação de estar de volta ao lar é de fechar um ciclo, e estou tão ansioso e a banda também de ir a Liverpool e botar para quebrar
Você poderia escolher um momento do ano como destaque ou ponto alto? Foi um ano incrível.
Foi um ano incrível, mas vou escolher dois. Eu acho que São Paulo, 65 mil pessoas no primeiro show foi maravilhoso, os brasileiros amam sua música e nós adoramos tocar para eles e foi um show que se destacou. Foi um de nossos melhores shows de sempre, foi simplesmente brilhante, a plateia pirou e nós tivemos uma ótima noite. E então vou à sala East na Casa Branca, pequena mas grande por causa de Obama e seus convidados que estavam na apresentação e tivemos uma ótima noite também, então eu escolheria esses dois shows.
Você está dizendo que a Casa Branca foi um aquecimento para hoje?
A Casa Branca não foi um aquecimento
Não como um show num pequeno clube?
Uh, não, eu não vou pegar a isca, você sabe que a Casa Branca foi brilhante em sua própria maneira já que eu nunca toquei lá, eu nunca conheci um presidente em exercício e eu sou grande fã desse presidente e sua esposa e sua família, todos estávamos realmente voando baixo por tocar naquele lugar e todos os envolvidos nesse show, era algo que estávamos falando várias semanas depois, então foi ótimo, não foi um bom aquecimento para o Clube 100, mas foi fantástico.

Q: Congratulations on a great show, how did it feel to play the 100 Club?
PAUL: It felt fantastic y'know because we're going back to the roots, reminded me of the cavern and beyond, and it was really nice. It's a great little venue and y'know so we were happy to be part of the campaign to save it as a venue cos it's too good to lose, it's a great little central London venue. We had a great time. It's great playing those little clubs and the audience is so up close I mean forget it, it's like you're having dinner with them. But it was great it was really cool and we enjoyed it we felt we played good, and we felt the audience responded well so outside of the fact that it was an hour after I'd got out of bed, it was great we had fun.
So you could fill pretty much any stadium, any arena you wanted to, so why the club gig?
Y' know I mean it's nice playing the big stadiums because everyone who wants to see you can get in and it's good doing the big epic shows, but coming back down to a little club like that is exciting and really I think the thing was having played a lot of big epic stadium shows this year we wanted to kind of bring the whole thing back home to Great Britain and have a great time in great Britain. So we've come back to the 100 club and that's about as small as you can get, and it's very intimate very good fun and we had a blast I mean I haven't played a lunchtime show since the Cavern, and the whole idea of getting out of bed and trying to get yourself ready for a show where you're going to have to sing some very high notes is interesting and we had a great time.
And that was your smallest solo show ever apparently?
I would think it probably is yeah I think The Cavern held more than the 100 Club, but it's great, those little places are great I think we all enjoyed it in the band.
So do you think we'll see a club tour next year?
No, I think in a word no.
Ok fair enough. It's been an amazing live year for you obviously you've got a couple of gigs to go you're finish in Liverpool is that a conscious choice? Are you looking forward to going back there?
Yeah y'know it's interesting cause the 100 Club and the Academy O2 in Liverpool are two gigs my son James did this year so he did the reccy and y'know we're following him into those gigs, but it's great I mean I love going back to Liverpool of course cos it's my home town I've got a load of relatives there and after we've been to Brazil and Argentina and American and been all over the place it's nice to come back home and so y'know we come back to Liverpool and it's just a good feeling at the end of the year to bring the whole thing home feel like you're going full circle, and so I'm looking forward, the band are all looking forward to getting up to Liverpool and getting up north man c'mon.
Could you pick one live moment of the year as a stand out highlight? It's been an incredible year.
It's been an incredible year, I think you've got, I would pick two. I think Sao Paulo, 65,000 people the first show was amazing the Brazilian people love their music and so we love to play to them and it was a stand out show. It was one of our top shows ever, and it was just brilliant, the audience was bananas and we have a great evening. And then I think you know you come down to the East room in the White House, smaller but just as great because of the Obamas' and the guests who were on the show so we had a great evening there too so I would choose those two.
Are you saying the White House was your warm up for today?
The White House was not a warm up.
Not like a small club gig there...
Uh no I'm not going, accepting that bait, y'know the White House was brilliant in it's own way I'd never played there, I'd never met an incumbent President and I'm big fan of this President and his wife and his family so we all were actually very buzzed to play that place and everyone involved in that show, it was something we were talking about for a good couple of weeks afterwards so it was great, it was not quite a warm up for the 100 Club, but it was fantastic.
